Project DetailsComplete Roof Replacement Project 32,900 SF
The Ritz Theatre is one of the oldest African American theaters in the country. Set in LaVilla, in the heart of Jacksonville, this theatre was the epicenter of what was known as the “Harlem of the South” in the late 1920’s. The complete replacement project consisted of removal of the existing EPDM roof system and insulation down to the steel deck. 5” of isocyanurate insulation was mechanically attached and a 3-ply, torch applied, modified bitumen roof system, by Soprema, was installed.
All of the historic lighting had to be carefully removed and then replaced after the reroof was completed. The entire building was waterproofed by McCurdy-Walden with an elastomeric coating and all of the building wall joints were resealed with a Dow silicone sealant.
